Lyrics Of Our Chosen Track

I won't take all that they hand me down,
And make out a smile, though I wear a frown,
And I won't take it all lying down,
'Cause once I get started I go to town.

'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to live my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

But darling, you know that I love you true,
Do anything that you want me to,
Confess all my sins like you want me to,
There's one thing that I will say to you,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to live my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

Like everybody else,
Like everybody else,
Like everybody else,
Like everybody else.

If you all want me to settle down,
Slow up and stop all my running 'round,
Do everything like you want me to,
There's one thing that I will say to you,
I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else,
And I don't want to ball about like everybody else,
And I don't want to like my life like everybody else,
And I won't say that I feel fine like everybody else,
'Cause I'm not like everybody else,
I'm not like everybody else.

Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else (like everybody else),
Like everybody else.

Symbols Of A MOD

Etymology

The term MOD derives from the term modernist, which was used in the 1950s to describe modern jazz musicians and fans. This usage contrasted with the term "trad", which described traditional jazz players and fans. The 1959 novel Absolute Beginners by Colin MacInnes describes as a modernist, a young modern jazz fan who dresses in sharp modern Italien clothes.

Absolute Beginners may be one of the earliest written examples of the term mondernist being used to describe young British style-concious modern jazz fans. The word modernist in this sense shouldn't be confused with the wider use of the term modernism in the context of literature, art, design amd architecture.

MOD Subculture

MOD from modernist is a subculture that orginiated in London, England, in the late 1950s and peaked in the early-to-mid 1960s.

Significant elements of the MOD subculture include fashion (often taylor made suites), music including African American soul, Jamaican ska, British beat music, R&B and motor scooters. The original MOD scene was also associated with amphetamine-fuelled all night dancing at clubs. From the mid-to-late 1960s and onwards, the mass media often used the term MOD in a wider sense to describe anything that was believed to be popular, fashionable or modern.

There was a MOD revival in the UK in the late 1970s, which was followed by a MOD revival in North America in the eraly 1980s, particulary Southern California.

My Group's Music Video Idea: I'm Not Like Everybody Else by The Kinks

We chose this song for our music video production because we wanted to do a song from the MOD-subculture and really liked the image of The Kinks. This song is the right length of time for a music video and it has the potential for a really good narrative as well as live performance.

Preliminary Task- Little Birdy by Jane Doe and The Undersirables

Relevant Artists To Jane Doe

Christina Aguilera's Candyman has a very retro upbeat tempo which is similar to Jane Doe's music.

Billie Holiday is another artist that Jane Doe reminds me of. The late 50s jazzy vibe seems to be a common occurance in the bands work.

Etta James's soul, ghospel, and blues voice has similar vocal arrangments to Jane Doe's.
